Finally got myself a copy of a clean Rainmakers LP recently. The group is known for it's massive Manila Sound hit "Binibini", but i like this song better. In fact it's one of the best local songs i've heard in a while..Especially the arrangement of the song, with the Jazzy Swing intro and how the groove kicks in after that. And the horns.. Dope.late 1970's, Blackgold Records.
Sunshine Pop from the Philippines. Here's Victor Laurel's version of "Make it with you" arranged by the great D' Amarillo.Early 1970's press.Pioneer Records.
Brings back good memories!!.I remember when this song was pretty big in New York.recording videos in Rap City B.E.T...Remix done on an Mpc2000.Can ya'll spot the sample?

After months of intense digging and compiling, we're now dropping the 1st installment of our Manila Sound Bonanza series..Volume one puts the spotlight on the lost 45 singles from late 60's and early 70's Soul/Boogaloo era. With dancefloor scorchers from Female singers such as Helen Gamboa (with her own version of "Do the Popcorn),also a toprank groovy original from Vilma Valera (Crazy Music, written by a young Danny Subido circa late 60's). Also from Vilma is a Desmond Dekker original, "Israelites", but done in a uptempo soul style, sure to rip the northern soul scene if there is one here in Manila hehe. Garage bands are also all over the place here, with J.A and the Jitterbugs leading the comp with "Boogaloo Party", from the soundtrack of the movie of the same title..The Jitterbugs are also the backing band for Helen Gamboa in most of her singles. A young Orly Ilacad and his ramrods drops a nice Pinoy version of "Funky Broadway".I like it. Pilita is also here with "Groovin", probably ya'll heard it as the intro song for the last "Kagatan" video..A nice instrumental jam from Relly Coloma,"The good the bad and the ugly" should give the B-boys some floortime..Relly Coloma's albums are usually lounge organ music that your lola listens to while stitching your undies, but in this track he lets the drums up front in the studio and does his Booker T. mode...Closing off the comp is a regular in our sets already, the danzfloor ready "Meeny-Meeny" from fellow Fabulous Four member, Norma Ledesma... For those who wants a Cd just hit us up and we'll hook you up.. Already in the works is Vol.2, this time charting the local Rock,Psyche and Garage tunes, and other Volume this time going Disco and Modern Soul...
